Being a cycle breaker is hard work. You're caring for another human, and caring for yourself is even harder, especially when you're used to putting everyone else first. You find yourself overwhelmed and frustrated—with your kids, with others, maybe even with yourself. You hear "break the cycle," and you know it's what you want, but it always feels like something you'll get to later. You tell yourself you'll figure it out eventually. But then life happens—the never-ending to-do list, the constant demands. You're always wondering, "What do they need?" And then, almost as an afterthought, "What do I need?" How do you balance it all? You know you want to parent differently, to show up differently, for your kids, for yourself, but it feels like too much. Being a Cycle Breaker, parenting yourself and your child — like a mother — means offering the same compassion and acceptance to yourself that you give to your children—meeting yourself where you are, with kindness, support, and understanding, no matter what comes up.

We can build those bridges and find that balance where your needs are as important as everyone else's, allowing you to nurture yourself alongside your children.

Things happen in life that hurt like a mother f****er. Loss, harm, trauma, birth trauma, and other intense, difficult experiences that stay with you even though you wish they didn’t… maybe in the form of anxiety, unwanted thoughts, depression, sleep issues, relationship difficulties and more. Even when you think you’ve moved past it, the pain and hard feelings force their way back in, bringing that sense of unsafety, that feeling of powerlessness. So you pull out all the coping skills in your toolbox, but they just aren’t working like they used to. It’s like you’ve lost control. You’re going through the motions, disconnected from yourself, from your energy, from your joy, from your aliveness…like you're just watching your life happen instead of truly living it.
